Green People is an organic, sustainable, vegan brand that uses ethically sourced ingredients. I tried out their new Coconut Charcoal Purifying Face Mask to see how it fared on my sensitive skin.*

Throughout high school and puberty, I was blessed. I had next to perfect skin, other than the odd spot here and there, and honestly, I took it for granted. Fast-forward to turning 20, my body decided to reject the pill, and I made the terrible decision to go on the Mirena Coil. I found myself living with a constant break-out, looking back longingly to the days of clearer skin.
Since then, I've completely come off birth control, and I'm slowly getting my skin back to normal. The constant breakouts may have stopped, but I have a lot of work to do, and my skin has become very sensitive and damaged because of the hormones. That means finding skincare that works for my skin, keeps it healthy, and prevents more breakouts can be difficult. Add that to the fact I want to find sustainable skincare products that benefit me without damaging the planet, and you're looking at an almost impossible task!
However, help is at hand! Green People, an organic, sustainable and vegan brand, has designed its skincare to take care of you and the planet using ethically sourced ingredients at the heart of all their products.
This month, they launched a brand-new face mask, which I was kindly gifted to try out, and I've got to say, I was very impressed. Read on to find out my thoughts.
Green People - Coconut Charcoal Purifying Face Mask
What it is:
A 'pore-purifying detox mask to mattify and balance combination or oily skin'
Properties:
With activated charcoal, the mask draws out any impurities and excess oil in the skin and reduces the appearance of pores. It also draws toxins away from the skin, controls oil production, reduces breakouts, and deep-cleanses the skin for a brighter, glowing complexion.
Ingredients:
Organic Aloe Vera, Activated Charcoal, Bentonite Clay, Alpine Willow, and gluten-free Oat Lipid.
How to Use:
Like any face mask, you simply smooth an even layer across the face, avoiding the eye area. Leave for 15-20 minutes until it dries, and rinse off with warm water.
So, is this the answer to my sensitive skin's sustainable skincare dreams?
Well, I'm going to keep it in my toolkit, that's for sure! The first thing I will say about this product is that it smells AMAZING. Using it is super simple, it's smooth to go on, unlike some masks that can be quite sticky, and it feels cool and refreshing on your skin. It dries quickly and doesn't feel too tight either, so you don't have to worry about cracking, but it still feels like it's doing its job. Oh, and it doesn't require a hundred cloth rounds to take it off like some charcoal masks do!
It's quick and easy, but don't let that fool you. After just one use, I noticed my skin looked cleaner and brighter, any acne inflammation on my cheeks had lessened significantly, and when I put my make-up on afterwards, my pores appeared much smaller. After a few uses, this response has become more prolonged, and my skin is looking noticeably clearer. So, despite it being simple to use and gentle on the skin, it seems like a powerful pore detoxer, and does what it says on the tin.
I can most definitely see myself adding this to my sustainable skincare routine once a week. And I have to mention that Green People also use the coconut husk that usually gets thrown away when making products with sustainably sourced coconuts, reducing the waste of such a valuable resource - just another aspect to their commitment to the planet.
Overall, I'm a big fan of this product and would recommend it for anyone who suffers from oily, acne-prone skin. I'll also be checking out some more products from Green People; if their coconut charcoal face mask is anything to go by, I've found a brand that will be a main feature in my sustainable skincare routine from now on.
